Wool has always set the standard for fine carpets, and it's easy to see why. Wool carpets are
soft and luxurious. They hold their shape and look fresh longer than any other type of carpet. And they're naturally stain-resistant and
flame-retardant without added chemical treatments. No wonder manufacturers of other types of carpet try to replicate wool, with limited
success.
Because wool carpets tend to be more expensive, some people don't consider them. The irony is that wool is always the better value in
the long run. Natural wool ages gracefully, continually renewing itself and developing a rich patina as years pass. If properly cared
for, wool carpets
can last 50 years or more.
Often you will see the words Wilton or Axminster associated with the finest wool carpets made for the home or commercial building. A
patterned wool carpet is the most practical
flooring choice available today; as it rarely shows spots, spills and everyday wear. Wool
carpets are often specified by leading Architects and Designers for some of the world's finest Hotels and Casinos for these reasons, as
well as safety and comfort.
J. R. Sovine Carpet & Floors has a tremendous selection of wool carpets made from either New Zealand or British wool, the finest in
the world.
Advantages
- Wool fiber is naturally more resilient than nylon. When crushed or stretched, they bounce back to their original shape. As a
result, wool will not matt or crush like nylon or other synthetic fibers will.
- No chemical additives to resist stains. Wool has a natural ability to shed water, an important characteristic considering that 80%
of carpet stains are water-based.
- No chemical additives to resist static electricity.
- No chemical flame retardants. Protein in the wool's constituents gives it excellent natural flame resistance. Natural wool fiber
will not support combustion and won't ignite if exposed to flame. They self-extinguish quickly, often leaving the carpet with only a
small amount of ash that can be brushed away. It takes just a single cinder or spark to melt unsightly patches into synthetic carpets.
- Wool fibers have microscopic scales that capture and hold dust particles until they are vacuumed. This results in less dust in the
air, a boon for people who suffer from allergies.
- Wool saves on heating costs because of its inherent thermal properties.
- A completely natural and renewable product.
